Keeping Kempston Safe - New CCTV for Kempston Mill

Bedford Labour

Cllr James Valentine, Borough Councillor for Kempston West (Labour) has had CCTV installed at Kempston Mill. This beauty spot is popular with Kempston residents and was recently opened up again to Great Denham via the repair of the Mill Bridge, closed throughout 2021 because it was unsafe.

There was previously a CCTV provision at this location but the camera failed and being an older model it was judged beyond repair.

Cllr Valentine said, “The majority of people are law-abiding but there are sometimes problems in this area such as vandalism and substance misuse.

Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterway Trust expect to open their boat landing stage quite soon which will increase the number of visitors to this part of Kempston.

CCTV is a reassuring presence, and I’ve also asked the Police for more high visibility patrols.”

He added “I’m grateful to Bedford Borough Council’s Community Safety Department for providing one of their deployable cameras which will shortly be replaced by a permanent camera purchased with some of my Ward Fund.”
